It will be an environmentally friendly event and will seek 'Gold' in sustainability from 'World Triahtlon'.

The 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía will be an environmentally friendly event and will seek the Gold certification in sustainability from 'World Triahtlon'.

  • The event will have a clear sustainability strategy, promoted by the Spanish Triathlon Federation and its sustainability movement, Good Loop.
  • The objective will be to minimise as far as possible the environmental impact caused by the Championships.
  • The clearest and most recent example will be the last final held in Pontevedra in 2023, where the planting of 192 trees achieved an event neutral in emissions.

The 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía will be, as it could not be otherwise, a sustainable and environmentally friendly event. The event, which has the support of its official sponsor, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government and the Provincial Council of Malaga and the Torremolinos Town Hall, will have a strategic sustainability policy under the umbrella of the Good Loop movement, the Spanish Triathlon Federation's movement for sustainability.

The objective will be none other than to opt for the 'World Triathlon' Gold certificate of sustainability and to make the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía, a neutral event in emissions, minimizing as far as possible the impact of the carbon footprint caused by the dispute of the championship, in a town like Torremolinos, which has a firm commitment in this area, which is addressed from the areas of Environment and Urban Regeneration.

Precisely, through these municipal delegations, the City Council promotes actions in many different areas of city life that emphasise sustainability, energy efficiency and the responsible use of resources. This also applies to sport, where it ensures that events of this magnitude also involve an environmental commitment that reduces the impact on the environment.

The Pontevedra Finals, the closest example

The mirror in which Torremolinos-Andalucía can look at itself is Pontevedra, which hosted the last edition of the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals and which has achieved a neutral event in terms of emissions by compensating the impact of the carbon footprint.

At the end of the Final, the total impact was calculated at 38 tonnes of carbon dioxide. To offset this impact, 192 trees were planted, all of which were native species, thus achieving an environmentally responsible event.
