More than 5500 ahletes in 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía

The 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía has closed the registration period for Age Group athletes and has done so with a resounding success, since the event, which has the support of its main sponsor, the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación Provincial de Málaga and the City Council of Torremolinos, has far exceeded all expectations and will be one of the finals with the highest participation in history.

More than 4000 Age Group triathletes from the five continents will be present at the Grand Final, which is an increase of almost 50% compared to last year's Final 2023, held in Pontevedra. To this figure must be added the Elite, Under-23, Junior and Paralympic Triathlon athletes, who will compute a total of more than 5500 athletes.

For the Counsellor of Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia del Pozo, “it is excellent news that we are going to break the record of participation in the Torremolinos-Andalucía Triathlon Final, we were convinced of the success of the competition, because our community is the ideal place for holding major sporting events that generate wealth and are a pole of attraction. Our climate, infrastructure and facilities make us the best choice for the largest championship of this sport and that more than 5,000 athletes participate in this edition is always a source of satisfaction and joy”.

The president of the Diputación de Málaga, Francisco Salado, has highlighted the extensive experience that treasures the province when it comes to hosting and organizing sports competitions of the first order. In this sense, has ensured that Torremolinos is “guarantee of success” and stressed that the celebration of the final of the World Triathlon Championship “will lead to a major tourist and economic impact for the municipality and the entire Costa del Sol”.

For its part, the mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, has celebrated the reception that has had the world test by athletes from around the world. “Having exceeded the 5,500 registered guarantees the success of an event that will make our city is claimed as world sports capital,” he stressed.

He also highlighted that the number of registrations, “also means the arrival of more than 20,000 visitors around the world triathlon, which undoubtedly represents a boost and excellent news for the accommodation plant, hospitality and commerce of our town”.

José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, expressed his satisfaction with the success of participation in the Torremolinos-Andalucía Final. “It is great news for triathlon that more than 5,500 athletes will compete in this final of the World Championship, and that with their companions will end up achieving another attendance record, surpassing a total of 20,000 people, all of them coming from more than 140 countries. This shows the excellent health and growth that our sport is currently experiencing”.

Hidalgo also stressed the importance of the location of the event: “Torremolinos, the province of Malaga and Andalusia as a whole are consolidated as an ideal destination for holding major sporting events. The combination of infrastructure, climate and the support of local institutions has been key to attract so many participants and to make this championship a resounding success. We are proud to put Spain back on the international triathlon map with an event of this level.”

We are happily proud to see how, once again, Spain proves to the world its capacity to host triathlon events. Torremolinos will be my farewell to the Presidency of 'World Triathlon', and it is a pride to think that it will be with one of the events with the largest participation in the history of our Federation, and with representation from so many countries”, said Marisol Casado, President of ‘World Triathlon’ and member of the International Olympic Committee.
